John Denver on the Billboard Music Charts
This week in 1974, John Denver started a two week run at Number One on the US singles chart with “Annie’s Song,” the singer’s second US Number One hit, which he wrote in ten minutes while he was on a ski lift. In a recent Billboard Magazine article celebrating 50 years of the Billboard AC charts, producer and friend Milt Okun spoke about making a hit song. In his career, Denver had 34 AC chart hits, including 18 Top Tens, nine of which reached Number One. The Number One songs place him in a tie for eighth-most in the chart’s history.
