  1. Take Me Home, Country Roads

    Take Me Home, Country Roads

    Almost heaven, West Virginia
    Blue Ridge Mountains
    Shenandoah River –
    Life is old there
    Older than the trees
    Younger than the mountains
    Growin like a breeze

    Country Roads, take me home
    To the place I belong
    West Virginia, mountain momma
    Take me home, country roads

All my memories gathered round her
Miners lady, stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky
    Misty taste of moonshine
    Teardrops in my eye

    Country Roads, take me home
    To the place I belong
    West Virginia, mountain momma
    Take me home, country roads

    I hear her voice
In the mornin hour she calls me
The radio reminds me of my home far away
And drivin down the road I get a feelin
That I should have been home yesterday, yesterday

    Country Roads, take me home
    To the place I belong
    West Virginia, mountain momma
    Take me home, country roads

    Country Roads, take me home
    To the place I belong
    West Virginia, mountain momma
    Take me home, country roads
Take me home, now country roads
Take me home, now country roads

  2. Follow Me

    Follow Me

It’s by far the hardest thing I’ve ever done
To be so in love with you and so alone

Follow me where I go what I do and who I know
Make it part of you to be a part of me
Follow me up and down all the way and all around
Take my hand and say you’ll follow me

It’s long been on my mind
You know it’s been a long, long time
I’ve tried to find the way that I can make you understand
The way I feel about you and just how much I need you
To be there where I can talk to you
When there’s no one else around

Follow me where I go what I do and who I know
Make it part of you to be a part of me
Follow me up and down all the way and all around
Take my hand and say you’ll follow me

You see I’d like to share my life with you
And show you things I’ve seen
Places that I’m going to places where I’ve been
To have you there beside me and never be alone
And all the time that you’re with me
Then we will be at home

Follow me where I go what I do and who I know
Make it part of you to be a part of me
Follow me up and down all the way
Take my hand and say you’ll follow me

  3. Starwood In Aspen

    Starwood In Aspen

It’s a long way from L.A. to Denver

It’s a long time to hang in the sky

It’s a long way home to Starwood in Aspen

    The sweet Rocky Mountain paradise

Oh, my sweet Rocky Mountain paradise

The springtime is rollin’ round slowly

Gray skies are bringin’ me down

Can’t remember when I’ve ever been so lonely

I’ve forgot what it’s like to be home

    I think on my lady’s sweet mem’ry

I think on my children’s sweet smiles

I think on my home at Starwood in Aspen

All my friends and the snow covered hills

Oh, my friends are the snow covered hills

Can I tell you I’m happy to be here

To share and consider this time?

For I see here the shadows of changes

And a feeling of new friends to find

And I see here some new friends to find

It’s a long way from this place to Denver

It’s a long time to hang in the sky

It’s a long way to home to Starwood in Aspen

    The sweet Rocky Mountain paradise

Oh, my sweet Rocky Mountain paradise

  4. For Baby (For Bobbie)

    For Baby (For Bobbie)

I’ll walk in the rain by your side, I’ll cling to the warmth of your hand.
I’ll do anything to keep you satisfied, I’ll love you more than anybody can.
And the wind will whisper your name to me, little birds will sing along in time.
Leaves will bow down when you walk by and morning bells will chime.

I’ll be there when you’re feeling down to kiss away the tears if you cry.
I’ll share with you all the happiness I’ve found, a reflection of the love in your eyes.
And I’ll sing you the songs of the rainbow, a whisper of the joy that is mine.
Leaves will bow down when you walk by and morning bells will chime.

I’ll walk in the rain by your side, I’ll cling to the warmth of your tiny hand.
I’ll do anything to help you understand, and I’ll love you more than anybody can.
And the wind will whisper your name to me, little birds will sing along in time.
Leaves will bow down when you walk by and morning bells will chime.

  5. Rhymes & Reasons

    Rhymes & Reasons

So you speak to me of sadness and the coming of the winter,
The fear that is within you now that seems to never end,
and the dreams that have escaped you and the hope that you’ve forgotten,
and you tell me that you need me now and you want to be my friend,
and you wonder where we’re going, where’s the rhyme and where’s the reason?
And it’s you who cannot accept it is here we must begin

to seek the wisdom of the children
and the graceful way of flowers in the wind.

For the children and the flowers are my sisters and my brothers,
their laughter and their loveliness would clear a cloudy day.
Like the music of the mountains and the colors of the rainbow,
they’re a promise of the future and a blessing for today.

Though the cities start to crumble and the towers fall around us,

the sun is slowly fading and it’s colder than the sea.
It is written: From the desert to the mountains they shall lead us,
by the hand and by the heart, they will comfort you and me.
In their innocence and trusting they will teach us to be free.

For the children and the flowers are my sisters and my brothers,
their laughter and their loveliness would clear a cloudy day.
And the song that I am singing is a prayer to non-believers,
come and stand beside us we can find a better way.

    (written by John Denver)

  6. Leaving, On A Jet Plane

    Leaving, On A Jet Plane

All my bags are packed, I’m ready to go, I’m standing here outside your door,
I hate to wake you up to say good-bye.
But the dawn is breaking, it’s early morn, the taxi’s waiting He’s blowing his horn.
Already I’m so lonesome I could die.

So kiss me and smile for me, tell me that you’ll wait for me, hold me like you’ll never let me go.
‘Cause I’m leaving on a jet plane, don’t know when I’ll be back again. Oh, babe, I hate to go.

There’s so many times I’ve let you down, so many times I’ve played around,
I tell you now they don’t mean a thing.

Every place I go I’ll think of you, every song I sing I’ll sing for you,
when I come back, I’ll bring your wedding ring.

So kiss me and smile for me, tell me that you’ll wait for me, hold me like you’ll never let me go.
‘Cause I’m leaving on a jet plane, don’t know when I’ll be back again. Oh, babe, I hate to go.

Now the time has come to leave you, one more time let me kiss you,
then close your eyes, I’ll be on my way.

Dream about the days to come when I won’t have to leave alone,
about the times I won’t have to say:

kiss me and smile for me, tell me that you’ll wait for me, hold me like you’ll never let me go.
‘Cause I’m leaving on a jet plane, don’t know when I’ll be back again. Oh, babe, I hate to go.
I’m leaving on a jet plane, don’t know when I’ll be back again. Oh, babe, I hate to go.

Side Two
  1. The Eagle and the Hawk

    The Eagle and the Hawk

I am the eagle, I live in high country in rocky cathedrals that reach to the sky.
I am the hawk, and there’s blood on my feathers.
But time is still turning, they soon will be dry.
And all those who see me, and all who believe in me
share in the freedom I feel when I fly.

Come dance with the west wind and touch on the mountain tops.
Sail o’er the canyons and up to the stars.
And reach for the heavens and hope for the future
and all that we can be, and not what we are.

  2. Sunshine on My Shoulders

    Sunshine on My Shoulders

Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy, sunshine in my eyes can make me cry.
Sunshine on the water looks so lovely, sunshine almost always makes me high.
If I had a day that I could give you, I’d give to you the day just like today.
If I had a song that I could sing for you, I’d sing a song to make you feel this way.

Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy, sunshine in my eyes can make me cry.
Sunshine on the water looks so lovely, sunshine almost always makes me high.
If I had a tale that I could tell you, I’d tell a tale sure to make you smile.
If I had a wish that I could wish for you, I’d make a wish for sunshine for all the while.

Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy, sunshine in my eyes can make me cry.
Sunshine on the water looks so lovely, sunshine almost always makes me high.
Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy, sunshine in my eyes can make me cry.
Sunshine on the water looks so lovely, sunshine almost always makes me high.
Sunshine almost all the time makes me high. Sunshine almost always…

  3. Goodbye Again

    Goodbye Again

It’s five o’clock this morning and the sun is on the rise.
There’s frosting on the windowpane and sorrow in your eyes.
The stars are fading quietly, night is nearly gone.
And so you turn away from me and tears begin to come,
and it’s goodbye again, I’m sorry to be leaving you.
Goodbye again, as if you didn’t know, it’s goodbye again,
and I wish you could tell me, why do we always fight when I have to go?

It seems a shame to leave you now, you lay so soft and warm.
I long to lay me down again and hold you in my arms.
I long to kiss your tears away and give you back your smile.
But other voices beckon me and for a little while it’s goodbye again,
Goodbye again, as if you didn’t know, it’s goodbye again,
and I wish you could tell me, why do we always fight when I have to go?

I have to go and see some friends of mine and some that I don’t know,
and some who aren’t familiar with my name.
It’s something that’s inside of me, not hard to understand, it’s anyone who’ll listen to me sing.

If your hours are empty now, who am I to blame?
Do you think if I were always here, our love would be the same?
As it is, the time we have is worth the time alone.
And lying by your side’s the greatest peace I’ve ever known, and it’s goodbye again,
Goodbye again, as if you didn’t know, it’s goodbye again,
and I wish you could tell me, why do we always fight when I have to go?

  4. Poems, Prayers & Promises

    Poems, Prayers & Promises

I’ve been lately thinking about my life’s time, all the things I’ve done and how it’s been.
And I can’t help believing in my own mind, I know I’m gonna hate to see it end.
I’ve seen a lot of sunshine, slept out in the rain, spent a night or two all on my own.
I’ve known my lady’s pleasures, had myself some friends, spent a time or two in my own home.
I have to say it now, it’s been a good life, all in all,
it’s really fine to have a chance to hang around.
Lie there by the fire and watch the evening tire,
while all my friends and my old lady sit and pass a pipe around.
And talk of poems and prayers and promises and things that we believe in.
How sweet it is to love someone, how right it is to care.
How long it’s been since yesterday, what about tomorrow
and what about our dreams and all the memories we share?

The days they pass so quickly now, the nights are seldom long.
Time around me whispers when it’s cold.
The changes somehow frightens me, still I have to smile. It turns me on to think of growing old.
Although my life’s been good to me, there’s still so much to do,
so many things my mind has never known.
I’d like to raise a family, I’d like to sail away and dance across the mountains on the moon.

  5. Rocky Mountain High

    Rocky Mountain High

He was born in the summer of his 27th year, coming home to a place he’d never been before.
He left yesterday behind him, you might say he was born again,
you might say he found a key for every door.
When he first came to the mountains, his life was far away on the road and hanging by a song.
But the strings already broken and he doesn’t really care,
it keeps changing fast, and it don’t last for long.

And the Colorado Rocky Mountain high, I’ve seen it raining fire in the sky.
The shadows from the starlight are softer than a lullaby.
Rocky Mountain high, Colorado. Rocky Mountain high.

He climbed cathedral mountains, he saw silver clouds below,
he saw everything as far as you can see.
And they say that he got crazy once and he tried to touch the sun,
and he lost a friend, but kept the memory.
Now he walks in quiet solitude, the forest and the streams, seeking grace in every step he takes.
His sight is turned inside himself, to try and understand
the serenity of a clear blue mountain lake.

And the Colorado Rocky Mountain high, I’ve seen it raining fire in the sky.
You can talk to God and listen to the casual reply.
Rocky Mountain high, Colorado. Rocky Mountain high.

Now his life is full of wonder, but his heart still knows some fear,
of a simple thing he can not comprehend.
Why they try to tear the mountains down to bring in a couple more,
more people, more scars upon the land.

And the Colorado Rocky Mountain high, I’ve seen it raining fire in the sky.
I know he’d be a poor man if he never saw an eagle fly,
Rocky Mountain high, the Colorado Rocky Mountain high, I’ve seen it raining fire in the sky.
Friends around the campfire and everybody’s high
Rocky Mountain high, Colorado. Rocky Mountain high.
Rocky Mountain high, Colorado. Rocky Mountain high.

(written by J. Denver, M. Taylor)

  6. I Guess He’d Rather Be In Colorado (reissue bonus track)

I Guess He’d Rather Be In Colorado (reissue bonus track)

I guess he’d rather be in Colorado.
He’d rather spend his time out where the sky looks like a pearl after the rain.
Once again I see him walking, once again I hear him talking
to the stars he makes and asking them the bus fare.

I guess he’d rather be in Colorado.
He’d rather play his banjo in the morning when the moon is scarcely gone.
In the dawn the subway’s coming, in the dawn I hear him humming
some old song he wrote of love in Boulder Canyon. I guess he’d rather be in Colorado.

I guess he’d rather be in Colorado.
I guess he’d rather work out where the only thing you earn is what you spend.
In the end up in his office, in the end a quiet cough is all he has to show,
he lives in New York City. I guess he’d rather be in Colorado.

    (written by Danoff/ Nivert)

  7. Daydream (reissue bonus track)

    Daydream (reissue bonus track)

Yes, I been dreaming about you every day, each and every day.

And I been thinking about you all night long, I even wrote a song.

Just to try and tell you how I really feel, to make you understand my love is real,

that you’re on my mind all the time, I wish to God you were mine once again.

I remember talking to you, I remember walking with you,

I remember laughing all the time when you were mine.

Now the days seem so long, I can’t face the night alone,

I beg you please, won’t you please come home.

    I remember talking to you,

    I remember walking with you,

I remember laughing all the time

    I remember singing to you

    I remember dreaming with you

I remember loving, you were mine

Now the days seem so long, I can’t face the night alone,

I beg you please, won’t you please come home.

    (written by John Denver)

  8. Friends With You (reissue bonus track)

Friends With You (reissue bonus track)

What a friend we have in time. Gives us children, makes us wine.
Tells us what to take or leave behind.
And the gifts of growing old, all the stories to be told
of the feelings more precious than gold.

Friends I will remember you, think of you, pray for you.
And when another day is through, I’ll still be friends with you.

Baby’s days are never long. Mother’s laugh is baby’s song.
Gives us all the hope to carry on.

Friends I will remember you, think of you, pray for you.
And when another day is through, I’ll still be friends with you.
Friends I will remember you, think of you, pray for you.
And when another day is through, I’ll still be friends with you.
My friends, I will remember you, think of you, pray for you.
And when another day is through, I’ll still be friends with you.

Side Two

  7. Daydream (reissue bonus track)

    Daydream (reissue bonus track)

Yes, I been dreaming about you every day, each and every day.

And I been thinking about you all night long, I even wrote a song.

Just to try and tell you how I really feel, to make you understand my love is real,

that you’re on my mind all the time, I wish to God you were mine once again.

I remember talking to you, I remember walking with you,

I remember laughing all the time when you were mine.

Now the days seem so long, I can’t face the night alone,

I beg you please, won’t you please come home.

    I remember talking to you,

    I remember walking with you,

I remember laughing all the time

    I remember singing to you

    I remember dreaming with you

I remember loving, you were mine

Now the days seem so long, I can’t face the night alone,

I beg you please, won’t you please come home.
